Cobras - students, teachers, staff, guests - Welcome!
This week, according to the Google, we bring you strange Canadian by-laws, still on the books in Canada.
P.E.I. (Charlottetown/Souris): Keep an eye on your garage sales—local bylaws often have strict rules about how many days a year you can actually sell your old stuff before the city considers you an "unlicensed business."
New Brunswick: Fredericton, it’s a no-go to carry a snake in public (unless it’s in a case).
Newfoundland: It is illegal to drive a cattle herd through the streets of St. John's between 8 AM and 10 PM. If you have cows to move, you’re doing it at midnight!
Cell Phones
- Put them in Lockers!
Colonel Gray Story Contest
- Colonel Gray Newspaper is excited to announce the Anti-Racism Short Story Contest! The contest will invite students to share their perspectives on diversity, equity, and inclusion through creative writing. The winners will receive a cash prize and have their entries published. Scan the QR codes on the poster in the hallways to enter the contest and follow @cghsnewspaper on Instagram to stay up to date on contest details! Portal closes on April 10th.
Easter Seals:
- Students…Take a moment and think about the time that one teacher ended up on the I Hate Them List. Maybe you got a bad mark, maybe you got sent to Cobra Support Room, maybe they moved seats and you no longer sat by your friend? Well now you can get back at them by pieing them in the face for Easter Seals. Tickets are sold in HR. HR that sells the most wins a Pizza Party, I heard that 8G was leading the way now with 13 tickets sold or $26. Still need more.
- Cupcake Sale Wednesday, April 1st. Bring your toonies and support this year's Easter Seals Ambassador, Rowan MacDonald by purchasing a sweet treat.
Drama Club:
- There will be two run-through rehearsals for all cast members before Easter: Friday, March 27, and Monday, March 30, at 12:00pm. Please bring your lunch and script with you and arrive promptly!
Music:
- Thursday: Grade 8 Band at 7:40 and Midnight Rockers at Lunch.
- PEI Schools of Rock Showcase is coming up on April 11 here at Birchwood. Both of our rock bands will be featuring tunes!
- Grade 8 and 9 Band students: Just a reminder to bring your chromebooks to band class for your project work.
Yearbook
- Reminder to get your yearbook orders in, we are down to the last few books and need to decide if we need to order more or not!
Ice Cream Treats
- On sale in the cafeteria today at lunch time.
Art Club
- If you are interested in an 8-week Art Club with local artist Wayne MacDonald, please sign up on the sheet on the office window.
BW Pet Survey
- Outside by the milk machine, there is a survey for what pets you have at your home I assume. There are spots there for Cats, Dogs, and Fish! I wonder if I can put a sticker on for Bubbles the Fish who is in my classroom, thanks to some great girls in 7G. Come visit Bubbles if you are around, but don’t pet him please.
