Tuesday April 7, 2026

According to the Google, spring on PEI brings about all kinds of things to look forward to, like Pot Holes.

The red soil of PEI is actually a major reason why our potholes are so legendary. Because the island is made of soft sedimentary sandstone, the ground underneath the roads shifts and erodes much faster than the hard bedrock found in other provinces.

When you combine that soft foundation with the freeze-thaw cycle—where water gets into cracks, freezes into ice, and expands—the road doesn't just crack; it basically explodes from the inside out. This is why a small dip can turn into a tire-eating crater overnight!

Easter Seals - Thanks to everyone who supported Easter Seals.  We had a lot of fun pieing teachers on the stage, a wonderful cupcake sale in the lobby and we learned once again that Birchwood knows how to support our community.  We next look forward to welcoming Easter Seals Ambassador Rowan MacDonald to Birchwood on April 29.
